Charles Frank Lawton, 77, a prominent retired merchant and former alderman died unexpectedly early Wednesday at his home 524 S. West Ave. Death came as he slept. Mr. Lawton who had extensive real estate holdings in this locality was for 20 years a member of the El Dorado City Council and for 24 years a Justice of the Peace. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church. Born in Union County, July 22, 1888, the son of Charles and Nancy Murphy Lawton, he was a lifelong resident of the county. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ola Deason Lawton, and a sister, Mrs. Phenie Griffin, both of El Dorado. He leaves also two nieces, Mrs. Josephine L. Rasco and Mrs. Jack McGlothlin and two nephews, Victor Lawton and Charles Griffin, all of El Dorado, also several great nieces and nephews. Funeral services have been announced for Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in the chapel of Young's with Elder R. W. Rhodes officiating, assisted by Judge W. A. Speer. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jack McGlothlin, Cliff Wright, Carl Runyan, Robert T. Wright, Hubert Deason, John Deason, Ferrell Gresham and Alfred Adams. (The El Dorado Times - August 25, 1965)
