From the news article written by Robert Winn in 1975:
Version by Iris Collier, present owner of the farm on which the cemetery is located is the time was during the Civil War. Jacob Yoes, then owner of the farm, was away with the Federal troops. His young wife, living alone on the farm, had joined by two other young wives whose men-folk were away. One woman was Mrs Poor; a second was Mrs Center. They were alerted by the sound of a gunshot not far away. Soon horses were heard approaching, and a band of renegades rode up to the gate. They were looking for a deserter but the women had not seen anyone. The men searched the house and left. Later a blue clad figure was visible moving towards the house. The women stitched him up but he did not survive. They drug him into the woods, dug a shallow grave, said a prayer and gave him a proper burial. Thus starting the Collier Yoes cemetery."
