Lee Winfred “Uncle Went” Duncan, 88, of Quitman, Arkansas, died Monday, May 5, 2008, at his home. He was born May 20, 1919 in Damascus, a son of the late Lee and Sudie “Susie” (Hughes) Duncan. He was also preceded in death by 5 brothers Omer, Isaac, Lavador, Arvin and AC; and a grandson, Joe Elkins. He was a retired welder for the Arkansas Foundry; a World War II Veteran and was also a prisoner of war; and a Baptist. Winfred was a medic with the 3rd Armored Division, 45th Battalion.
Winfred loved hunting, and he and his family were members of The Duncan Hunting Camp, that was named in his honor, where he and his family enjoyed spending time. It almost became like a family reunion when they would go to camp. He was a mason for over 50 years and a member of Quitman Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Duncan is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Fern (Johnson) Duncan; children, Kenneth Duncan and wife Sheila of Damascus; Winifred Carol Almand and husband Roy of Quitman; Janet Johnson and husband Darrell of Batesville; Larry Duncan and wife Betty of Quitman; his sister, Alie May of Damascus; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a number of nephews and nieces.
