George William 'Bill' Vernon

SILOAM SPRINGS — George William -"Bill" Vernon, 62, of Siloam Springs died May 3, 2002, at his home. He was born Dec. 9, 1939, in Los Angeles, Calif., to George Franklin and Margaret Matilda Dunlap Vernon. He was reared by Dr. Audrey and Eilene Thomas. He was a machinist for Sebastian Equipment of Siloam Springs and formerly a barber at the City Barber Shop in Siloam Springs. He was a disabled veteran and a member of the D.A.V. and American Legion. He was active in the Brotherhood Missions and an active member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Jean McJunkin, to whom he was married in Siloam Springs in 1964; two sons, Jeff Vernon of Siloam Springs and James Paul Vernon of Kansas, Okla.; one daughter, Dena Marie Haeberle of Springdale; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Floyd Earl Vernon of Oakley, Calif., and Louie Thomas of Siloam Springs; two sisters, Carol Nichols of Siloam Springs and Linda Galyean of Bentonville.

A memorial service is planned for 4 p.m. May 11 at First Baptist Church of Siloam Springs with Dr. Steve Abbott officiating.

Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Friends may contribute to the building fund at First Baptist Church. Arrangements are by Wasson Funeral Home.
