Faith Dorothy Varvil, 86, of Quitman, Arkansas died Saturday, August 25, 2012 in Fayetteville. She was born October 16, 1925 in Washta, Iowa, the daughter of Ray and Ellen Roberts. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Willis Eual Varvil and James Dasher and two sisters, Betty Samuelson and Mary Gum.

Faith lived most of her life in Quitman on the family cattle farm. She taught school at Solomon Grove, Quitman, West Side (Greers Ferry), Guy and Greenbrier. She obtained a Master's Degree in Education from the State College of Arkansas in 1969. Before retirement from education, Faith was a special education supervisor in the Pulaski County Special School District. She remained active for many years with Arkansas Retired Teacher's Association. She was a founding member of the Cleburne County Master Gardener's Program and was instrumental in landscaping the Quitman school campus. Faith's passions were to create beautiful things of glass, wood, ceramics, fabrics and paint; to travel, sometimes as far away as New Zealand and Europe; to create a naturalistic and quirky landscape around her home; and to bring people together for fun. She found something interesting to learn about and to enjoy in everyone she met.

Faith is survived by her daughter Nancy Varvil of Fayetteville; three sons, Phil Varvil and wife, Sue; Stuart Varvil and wife, Beth, all of Quitman and John Varvil and wife, Brenda, of Springdale; stepchildren Susan Spradlin, Tony Dasher, Terry Dasher, Johnny Dasher and Jerry Dasher; a sister Helen Carsten and husband, Merlyn; two brothers Bob Roberts and wife, Lavonne, and Bill Roberts and wife, Lolly. Faith is also survived by seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren: Penny Condoll and children Towne and Tyne; Jason Varvil and children Braxton and Wyatt; Derek Varvil and children Grace and Leah; Amy Blanton and children Hunter, Kylie, Eden and Chase; Joshua Varvil, Drew Varvil and children Jaxon, Madilyn and Riley; Megan Murray; and dear friends, Diane Moore, and Carolyn Fowler.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 28, and the funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 29, both at the Quitman United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery after the service. Funeral is under the direction of Roller McNutt. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Quitman United Methodist Church Building Fund, 44 College Street, Quitman, Arkansas 72131
