Gloria Jean Bickel Schinkal of Pineville, Arkansas

Gloria Jean Bickel Schinkal, daughter of the late Albert Bickel and Lonie Strait Mitchell, was born May 14, 1944 in San Angelo, Texas. She departed this life November 26, 2012 at her home in Pineville, Arkansas at the age of 68 years, 6 months and 12 days. She was united in marriage to David Schinkal on January 17, 1962 in Austin, Texas. After earning a Registered Nursing Degree, she worked as an Anesthesiologist Tech on the Open Heart Team at UAMS in Little Rock. Later she operated the gift shop at the Excelsior Hotel in Little Rock. While working at Safe Zone Signs, she fell in love with the Pineville/Calico Rock Area. After moving to Pineville, she opened the “This and That Shop” in Calico Rock. She and David were very active in the Pineville and Calico Rock Volunteer Fire Departments. She was a member of Guiding Star Chapter #588, holding many local and state offices. At the time of her death, she was the Mayor of Pineville and the current Arkansas Grand Chapter Associate Grand Matron. She was of the Presbyterian faith and an active member of the Calico Rock Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by one son: Mark Mitchell of Midland, Texas; three daughters and three sons-in-law: Cheri and Tony Porter of Midland, Texas, Kim and Troy Mitchusson of Wynne, Arkansas and Lisa and Steve Harness of Austin, Arkansas; ten grandchildren: Mark Mitchell, Jr, Michael Porter, Aaron Porter, Caitlin Porter, Zachary Johnson, Todd Johnson, Mitchell Mitchusson, Amber Patterson, Whitney Harness and Josh Harness; six great grandchildren: Madelyn Porter, Molly Porter, Layla Porter, Caleb Mitchell, Conner Patterson and Ryder Johnson and a host of other relatives and many good friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 45 years, David Schinkal.

Funeral service will be Saturday, December 1 at 11:00 a.m. at Calico Rock Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Wayne Wood, Isaac Gray and Tom Campbell officiating. Burial will be at Pineville Cemetery under the direction of Eddie’s Family Funeral Home in Calico Rock. Visitation will be Friday, November 30 from 6-8 p.m.

Pallbearers: Mike Stevens, Sue Stevens, Dale Post, Eric Hicks, Ron Klien, Joyce Sanders, Joe Stevens, and Patty Sanders.

Honorary Pallbearers: Paul Goins, Ira Payne, Jerry Whorton, Steven Dye and Bill Pierce.
