MAXWELL, Margaret Jennie KELLEY Shelton Cowan Simmons - Mrs. O.D. Maxwell died at her home in this city on Monday, June 17th, 1901 at 9:15 o'clock a.m., aged 64 years. Mrs. Maxwell was afflicted for several years and for the past year had been unable to care for herself. As the end drew near her sufferings increased and she was never free from pain. Death came to her not as a grim monster but rather as a friend, for she was ready to go. The funeral service, conducted by Rev. Peter Carnahan Tuesday morning, was largely attended by friends and acquaintances. Interment at the Odd Fellows cemetery followed immediately after the service.

Died June 17th, at home, Bentonville, Ark., Margaret Jennie Maxwell {nee Kelley} in the 64th year of her age. The deceased was born in Marion county, Tenn. Feb. 11th, 1837. When about 17 years of age she professed faith in Christ as her personal Savior and united with the C.P. Church. She was first married to Henry Shelton of Tenn. in 1857. Soon after the Civil War Mr. Shelton died; and about the year 1870 she was married to W.H. Cowan of Tenn. and soon thereafter they came to Benton county, Ark. This relation continued but a few years when Mr. Cowan died. About the year 1880 she was married to J.W. Simmons of Benton county, Ark., who several years after also died. August 1886 she was married to O.D. Maxwell of Bentonville. To each of these she was a faithful and loving wife. For more than forty years of her life she was afflicted and during her last years a great sufferer. Her funeral was attended by her many friends. Her remains were buried in the Odd Fellows cemetery on the family lot of her former husband, J.W. Simmons. To her husband, Bro. O.D. Maxwell, the whole community extends their condolence and sincere Christian sympathy.
