Clarence Briley of route 2, Van Buren died Monday, Sept. 16 in a local nursing home following a long illness. A resident of Crawford county for 65 years, he was born Nov. 11, 1893 in Sequoyah county, Oklahoma to Jim and Alice Spoon Briley and was 73 years old at the time of his death. He was a retired farmer.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Bessie Briley; two sons, James and Marvin Briley, both of Van Buren; four daughters, Mrs. Anna Mae Brown of Van Buren, Mrs. Margaret Steely of Tahlequah, Okla., Mrs. Faye Alice Brewer and Mrs. Mary Watkins, both of Uniontown; three brothers, Roy of Little Rock, R. C. of Tulsa and Ray of Sarcoxie, MO; two sisters, Mrs. Abbie Reed of Miami, Fla. and Mrs. Susie Hunt of Shreveport, LA; 21 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Dripping Springs church with W. L. GBodine and A. E. Sebastian, the officiating ministers. Burial, directed by Ocker Funeral Home, will be in the Dripping Springs cemetery.
Casket bearers will be David Jordan, Hollis Irvin, Alvin Richmond, H. V. Wilson, J. T. McMaster and Earl Brewer Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Fletcher Hodges, Dow Baggett, Jim Gibbs, Ray Baker, Ted Fears, Raymond Allen, Joe McAdams, DeWitt Swaim and Lindsey Peace.
