LINDSAY, Virgil - {from The Siloam Springs Daily Republican} At about 9 o'clock Saturday morning Virgil Lindsay, the 15-year-old son of M.S. Lindsay, was accidentally shot by Macy Martin, a 14-year-old companion, and almost instantly killed. The boys were out on the old Hubbard place, near Mr. Weaver's, where they had gone to look after some rabbit traps, accompanied by three other boys - Steve and Tom Anderson and Carl Carrick - who were present at the time of the tragedy. Carl Carrick had with him a 22-calibre target rifle and it was this weapon which did the fatal work. Carl had just shot at a spot and laid the gun down and went to look at the result of his shot. The Martin boy picked the gun up and in loading it, let the hammer slip, causing the discharge of the gun, the ball penetrating young Lindsay's left breast, passing through just below the heart. The stricken boy threw his hand to his breast, crying "I'm shot," turned and ran some forty yards, sinking down near Mr. Weaver's house. The horror stricken boys followed and by the help of Miss Weaver, young Lindsay was taken into the house and a message sent for Mr. Lindsay and a physician but before either could reach he had crossed to the Great Beyond. The little Martin boy is almost wild over the result of his carelessness. The sympathy of the community goes out to the family.
