OWENBY, Julius F. - The sudden death on last Friday morning, February 3, of Julius F. Owenby, one of Springdale's esteemed citizens and townsmen, was unexpected alike to family and friends. His sickness was that of pneumonia and lasting about ten days in which time he was stricken from the prime of life and the bloom of health into death's embrace. He bore his suffering with great fortitude but seemed conscious from the first that his last moments had come and sought to make every preparation for the event. His father, Mr. P.M. Owenby, moved to this county from the state of Georgia in the spring of 1854 and has ever since made it his home, being at present one of the leading men of this place. Julius was the second son and was born at Oxford Bend, eight miles south east of Springdale, May 6, 1856; making him at the time of his death 31 years, 5{?} months and 27 days old. Three sons and five daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. Owenby and it has been their sad lot to witness the burial of all their sons, Julius being the last; the other two dying in 1882, just a month intervening between their deaths. Julius was married March 7, 1875 to Miss Lizzie Eidson by whom he became the father of three children, two of whom, with his wife, live to mourn his loss. The two little boys, Garland and Carl, aged 10 and 8 respectively, are bright and intellligent and are left as a great comfort to the wife and parents. Mr. Owenby was so far in life quite successful in his business affairs; was noted for his generosity to those with whom he dealt. In his religious views some years since he became united with the Baptist church but when the Seventh Day Adventists came to this place some three years ago he changed his faith in harmony with their views and died in that belief. His funeral was held at the Friendship church, some three miles east of town, on Feb. 4. The sermon was delivered by Eld. J.P. Henderson of the Adventists faith and not withstanding the almost impossible roads, immense concourse of people attended. His remains were laid beside that of his brothers in the Friendship graveyard. Mr. Owenby was a good man, a good and beloved citizen; and many friends sympathize with the family and mourn his loss.
