Calvin Shinpaugh

FAYETTEVILLE — Calvin LeeRoy Shinpaugh, 80, of Fayetteville died March 5, 2006. He was born May 14, 1925, in Mansfield, Mo., to J.C. and Maggie Moody Shinpaugh. He was a membar of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. He was a 1943 graduate of Springdale High School. He was a Naval Air Corps veteran, serving as an aviation ordnance man in the South Pacific. He attended the University of Arkansas and the Chicago Art Institute and was past president of the Washington State Amateur Astronomers' Association. He was a ham radio enthusiast and gifted pianist. At age 14, he was first chair violin in the Arkansas State Orchestra. He worked at McDonnell-Douglas in Tulsa, Okla., and Boeing in Seattle. He retired from Boeing and became an independent truck driver. He was preceded in death by his wives, Barbara "Lynn" Bickford Shinpaugh and Frances Lindley Shinpaugh.

Survivors include one sister, Jean McCollough of Springdale; two sons, Owen Bickford of Port Townsend, Wash., and Joseph Shinpaugh of Springdale; two daughters, Bonnie Sherrell of Sequim, Wash., and Rebekah Ogle of Cave Springs; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Friendship Cemetery with Herb White officiating.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Spririgdale.
