Drowned at Fisher Ford

NEWSOM, E.S. - {from The Cincinnati Argus) A man was drowned in the Illinois river at the "Fisher" crossing yesterday morning. We are unable to learn his name but it is thought he lived near Siloam and was on his way to this place. From the reports that reached here it seems that his wagon bed floated off and being unable to swim he was carried over the falls, a short distance below the crossing. A young man who was in the wagon with him saved himself by swimming out to the bank and afterwards made one or two heroic attempts to save his companion. The body had not been recovered when the last report reached us.
From a Siloam Springs paper we learn that the name of the man drowned was E.S. Newsom and that he had gone after his wife, who was visiting with her daughter at Prairie Grove.
