PRIVATE
Company H 8th Illinois Infantry
Civil War Union
February 1843 - October 1925

James Wiley Haley, Feb 1843, Fayette Co., IL, died 14 Oct 1925, Benton, AR, Father of William H Haley , Cynthia B Haley Moore, husband of Matilda Lyons Haley.

Obituary:
James Wiley Haley was born February 23, 1843, in Fayette County, Illinois. He enlisted in Captain Alva C. Bishop's company, Company M, 8th
Regiment of Illinois Infantry, July 25, 1861. He was honorably discharged therefrom on July 30, 1964. He re-enlisted in Captain James M. Thompson's company, Company I, of the Fourth Regiment of U. S. Veteran volunteers March 13,1865, and was honorably discharged March 12, 1866, his time having expired.

Thus his service was not a forced service but he stayed in the fight until it was finished, leaving his children a noble example of patriotic devotion.

On July 26,1866, he married Miss Matilda Lyons, and to this union two children were born: William Haley and Cynthia Bell Haley. Both of whom are living in Siloam Springs, Arkansas.

Mr. Haley professed Christianity at an early date and was a member of the Brethren Church. His life was a testimony to his Christian faith and made him much loved in Siloam Springs.

He moved to Siloam Springs in September, 1907. Three years after he moved to this city, his wife passed away and is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery. He followed her, October 13, 1925.

He was a member of the local G.A.R. organization and his comrades turned out full strength to pay him this last honor. They loved him dearly and many wept as they gathered about to place upon his breast the little flag emblematic of his patriotic devotion.

His many friends and acquaintances will miss this veteran and patriot.

Card of Thanks: We the family wish to thank the G.A.R., W.R.C., American Legion, Royal Neighbors and our many friends for their heartfelt sympathy and kindness during the illness and death of our father and grandfather and for the beautiful floral offerings. Mrs. W. H. Haley, Mrs. C. B. Russel, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Davis, Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Carter, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Knight, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Davison.
