Merritt Knight was born June 11, 1844 in Harrison, Hamilton Co, TN, and died April 28, 1921 in Crawford Co, AR. He married Melissa Oliver in 1867 in Crawford Co, AR

This union was blessed with seven children; Merritt "Matt", Ellen, George Washington, Robert H Lee, Ida Nancy, William N and Jennie.

Merritt served on both sides during the Civil War. From Sep 7, 1861 to Sep 13, 1863 he was in the Confederacy, 3 Lt, H Co, 37th Tenn Infantry
From Sept 1863 - July 2, 1865, he was in the Union, Cpl, Co, I, 11th Ky Cav Vols.

Merritt Knight, 3 Lt, H Co, 37th Tenn. Inf., enlisted 7 Sept 1861 at Knoxville, age 17, was captured 13 Sept 1863, Ringgold, GA, took oath of allegiance to US and enlisted in Co I, 11th KY Cav.

Merritt Knight, CPL, Co I, 11th Ky Cav Vols, enlisted 24 Sept 1863 at Louisville, KY, was mustered out 2 July 1865 at Lousiville. He was born 11 June 1844 at Harrison, Hamilton County, TN, died 28 April 1920, Crawford Co, AR (Ref.: pension application No. 668,012, certificate No. 676,703, National Archives).
