“Nellie” Lovesta Kennedy, or “Old Nell” as she would say, left this life on May 17, 2009, to be with her family in Heaven. She passed away peacefully in her Quitman, Arkansas home at the age of 101 where she was fortunate to remain her entire life. Ms. Nellie was born on January 8, 1908, to Joe and Clemmie (Johnston) Bennett in Quitman, Arkansas.
Ms. Nellie devoted her life to the cultivation of loving relationships with her friends and family as a homemaker, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Ms. Nellie loved singing, gardening, and home keeping though they were all a far second to her enjoyment of spending time with her beloved friends and family. She was also deeply grateful to all the caregivers and volunteers who so graciously showed her love, patience, and generosity in her last years with us, with special gratitude to “BoBo”, Lenore Baggley and Glenn Ward.
Ms. Nellie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elisha Kennedy; a daughter, Adlene Kennedy; her parents, Joe and Clemmie Bennett; and five sisters, Dollie Bennett, Rita Cooper, Gladys Johnson, Marcia Turner, Lucy Mae Johnson; and one brother, Holly Bennett.
She is survived by two daughters, Imogene Graddy and Joada Blasingame as well as six grandchildren, Joan Draskam, Jack Graddy, Roger Graddy, Evelin (Kennedy) Hampton, Mary Jo Blasingame, and Jeannie Blasingame. She is also survived by and preceded in death by a multitude of friends whom she deeply loved.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at the Goodloe Cemetery, Quitman, Arkansas, at 2 p.m. Rev. Joe Kennedy will be officiating the ceremony and all are welcome. Paul, Richard, Chance, and Shawn Baggley, Charles Barham, Charles Alderson, and Leo Langrell will serve as pallbearers. It is Nellie’s wish that memorial gifts may be made to your favorite charity.
