Alderman S. L. Gordon, aged 67, well known Camden city official, died suddenly Tuesday afternoon of a heart attack. Mr. Gordon was raking leaves in the front yard of his home on Wooward street when he slumped to the ground. He died before medical aid could reach him. Mr. Gordon had been a member of the city council for many years and had been very active in municipal work. He formerly operated and ice cream plant here and for many years was manager of the Camden Ice & Coal Co. As chairman of the important street committee of the city council he had charge of al RFD and CWA street work in the city for the past two years. Mr. Gordon was born in Raleigh, N.C., on October 16, 1`866, and moved to Calhoun county with his parents when a young boy. He moved to Camden when a young man and has resided here since. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. J. K. F--ish, Mrs. H. S. Price, of Roosevelt, La. and two sons, _-.A. Gordon, of Camden, and S. L. Gordon, Jr, of Roosevelt, La. Two half-sisters, Mrs. Stair of Little Rock; Mrs. Sanders C---- of Woodberry; five half-brothers, Charlie Gordon of Camden, Duke W. Gordon, Walter, Gordon, William Gordon, all of Little Rock; and Sam Gordon of Sparks, Okla. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Gordon home with the Rev. W. H. House, pastor of the First Methodist church officiating. Active pall bearers were Mayor G. R. Haynie, C. L. Barker, T. I. Thornton, Pat Greening, - R. Reeves and S. A. Doyle. Honorary pall bearers were Arthur Rhodes, Maurice Cawthon, John Galyen, Jr. W. C. Barnes, Fred Hollis, W. P. Lockett, Dr. Herman Williamson, Sam Apple, Dr. Ed L. Watson, A. W. Ellis, Dan O'Connor, Hai-- Rowe, Sam Horne, Fred Benson, A. Felsenthal and H. B. Lide. (Camden Times - January 11, 1934)
