W F Spivey, 76; county agent, active in groups, UA alumnus
William Farrell Spivey, 76, of Little Rock, a county agent for 36 years and charter member and former president of Arkansas County Agents Association, died Thursday.
Spivey was given the Distinguished Service Award as Arkansas' Outstanding county Agent of the Year, rwas recognized for outsanding service in Pulaski county by the Farm Bureau, served on the board of the Farm Bureau and received the Col. T H Barton Award in 1976.
He was a native of Selma, Ala., and was named All-Southwest Conference guard at University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in 1934.
He was chairman of Pulaski county Red Cross and executive director of the Arkansas Agricultural Aviation Association.
Spivey was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho, Epsilon Sigma Phi, a life member of University Alumni Association, a life member of Razorback Letterman's Club, charter member of Farm & Ranch Club of Arkansas, a lifetime honorary member of 4-H Clbs, member of Saddle & Sirloin club, Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church where he was on the Administrative Board and president of Butler Sunday school class and member of Society of St. Stephen.
Spivey was a member of American Association of Retired Persons, Chapter 34, and the Marianna Rotary Club.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at Pulaski Heights United Methodist church by Dr. Gerald Mulliken and the Revs. Carl Matthews and O D Peters. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. at McGehee Cemetery at McGehee byu Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth.
Memorials may be made to Pulaski county 4-H Foundation, Inc. or Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church.
Survivors are his wife, Wanda R "Sunshine" Underwood Spivey; two sons, Dr. Don M. Spivey of St Petersburg, Fla, and William David Spivey of Greensboro, N.C.; four stepsons, Richard Underwood of Tucson, Ariz., Cliff Underwood and Charles Underwood, of Dallas, Texas, and Robert Underwood of Phoenix, Ariz.; a stepdaughter, Joy Sue "Susi" Bell of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Mary Evelyn Browning of McGehee; and 13 grandchildren.
