Olen Harold Pennington, 63, of Bee Branch, passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2007. He was born March 23, 1944, at Morganton, Arkansas, on the property originally homesteaded by his great-great grandfather in the early 1800s, where Harold resided until his death. He was preceded in death by his parents, Olen and Elmus Kennedy Pennington; one brother, Glen Pennington; nephew, Austin Anderson; and niece, Janet Pennington.
He was valedictorian of his high school class and a 1968 graduate of the University of Central Arkansas with a BS in math. Harold was drafted into the United States Army and served 18 months with the 101st Airborne in Vietnam, honorably discharged as a sergeant, and awarded the Purple Heart for bravery. He was self-employed as a heavy equipment operator, welder, cattle farmer, and business man.
Harold is survived by his wife of seven years, Claudette Watts Pennington; three brothers, Quinton (Linda) of Damascus, Larry (Freida), and Don (Donna Kay) of Bee Branch; three sisters, Ina Cassell (Wendell) of Clinton, Glynna Condray (George) of Bee Branch, and Mary Carrell (Steve) of Damascus; sister-in-law Donna Jean Pennington of Bee Branch; mother-in-law Lorene Watts of Clinton; nieces and nephews.
Harold was a Christian, and attended Mt Zion General Baptist Church at Morganton. He was a gentle man who was a loving husband, brother, and uncle, with many friends. His generosity was well-known, and included the donation of a kidney to his brother Glen, which added two decades to his brother's life. He was beloved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
