JOHN H. CHISM, of Sherwood, passed away Friday, Dec. 2, 2011. He was born Sept. 17, 1935, in St. Francis County to the late James Kyle Chism and Mary Lou Thomas Chism. He graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1954 and worked his way through college and graduated from LA Tech in 1958 with a major in accounting. He practiced as a CPA for approximately 50 years, founding John H. Chism and Company, CPAs, Ltd., a firm which still bears his name. He became a lifetime member of Arkansas Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs. He served as Chairman of the Taxation Committee of the Arkansas Society of CPAs and represented the society in liason meetings with the IRS in Washington, D.C. He served in the U.S. Army for approximately three years as a cryptographer assigned to military intelligence with military headquarters for NATO. Granted top secret and atomic secret security clearances. He served as a member of the City of Sherwood Facilities Board and Public Building Authority for approximately 20 years. He was a member of Thousand Hills Baptist Church. He served in various churches as Bible study teacher, Deacon, Finance Advisor, and as a worship leader. He was also a member of the Sherwood/Jacksonville Gideon's camp for several years. He participated in sports and fitness activities most of his life and received numerous trophies and medals in athletic competitions, won second place in national 3-point and free-throw basketball-shooting competitions, senior division. In 2007 he was selected for an Amazing Spirit Award by Baptist Health awarded for healthy, active life style and community service. He is survived by his wife, Frances Chism; two daughters, Valerie Tobin (Surry) and Melanie Golliglee; four grandchildren, Kyle Tobin, Chase Golliglee, Megan Golliglee, Mallory Golliglee; one brother Alvin Benjamin Christmas (Cindy). He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jimmy Lewis Chism and Donald Chism; his stepmother, Pauline Chism; and stepfather, Alvin Christmas. Service will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, at Highway Baptist Church, 5845 Roundtop Dr., Sherwood, Ark., with Reverend Mark Overman and Reverend Jay Lea officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Hills Memorial Park, Sherwood. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Monday, at Roller-Owens Funeral Home, 5509 John F.
