GHOLSON, Sarah Elizabeth HEASLETT – Mrs. Sarah Gholson Dies Monday Morning – Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Gholson, 93 years old, died Wednesday morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Gearhart, in the Mason Valley community, southwest of Bentonville.

Mrs. Gholson, the widow of the late W.M. Gholson, was born near what is now the town of Decatur in 1847, the daughter of James and Mourning Heaslett, pioneer Benton Countians, who came here from Tennessee. Mrs. Gholson’s parents first settled two miles west of Bentonville, but later moved to a log house between Gravette and Decatur. The log house is still standing and is marked with several bullet holes, mementoes of a Civil War skirmish.

She was married in 1866 to William M. Gholson, who fought four years for the Confederacy in the War Between the States. Mr. Gholson died in 1891.

Tentative funeral arrangements call for service to be conducted at the Mason Valley Baptist Church Sunday afternoon at 1 o’clock. Burial will be in the Coffelt cemetery.

Mrs. Gholson is survived by five daughters; Mrs. Gearheart, Mrs. James Cain of Rogers, Mrs. J.R. Givens of Amarillo, Texas, Mrs. Della Sprinkle of Miami, Oklahoma and Mrs. Ida Ketchum of Elkheart, Kansas; two sons, J.H. and W.A. Gholson of Mason Valley; several grandchildren, including Will Cain of Fayetteville, Ernest Gholson, Mrs. Arthur Hart and Mrs. Pike, all of Mason Valley, Burton Gholson of Milton, New York and Don Gholson of Kansas City, Kansas; two nephews, Mac and Sam Peek, both of Decatur and a niece, Mrs. W.S. McGaugh, also of Decatur.
