BROWNING, Sarah Jane SMITH - Mrs. Sarah Jane Browning, wife of the late W.T. Browning, passed away Tuesday morning, Sept. 15, 1931 at the age of 75 years. She was the mother of Mrs. George Maples with whom she had made her home for the past eight years. She had been ill for several years and for the last three months was confined to her bed, requiring a nurse night and day. Funeral services were held and burial made at the Coffelt Cemetery, west of Vaughn, Wednesday morning, the Rev. W.E. White, pastor of the First Baptist Church, conducting the services. Sarah Jane Smith was born in Louisville, Ky. May 8, 1856 where she grew to womanhood and was married there to Mr. Browning. Two children were born to them, Mrs. George Maples of this city and W.T. Browning of Hiwasse. Mr. Browning and his family came to Benton County about 40 years ago and located on a farm in Mason Valley. He later bought a store in Centerton which he operated for several years. After selling out he bought another farm near Hiwasse. He died about eight years ago and was laid to rest in Coffelt Cemetery. Besides her son and daughter she is survived by five grandchildren and three great grandchildren, all of whom will miss her. Mrs. Browning joined the Baptist church in Louisville when 17 years of age and was identified with that church since that time.
