John Dickinson was born in Wisconsin Sept. 19, 1854 and died at Bentonville, Ark. March 15, 1910 at 2 a.m., age fifty-five years, five months and twenty-six days. He was twice married. To the first union were born three children who survive him. He was married to his present wife Feb. 9, 1898. To them were born three girls, Juanita, Wilma and Mildred, who today mourn for papa whom they loved most dearly. He came to Bentonville from Triplett, Mo. in October 1908, residing here since until the time of his death. Although he had not long been in the community he had made many friends who are personally grieved at his death. He was ill for three or four weeks but none of his friends realized his true condition until a few days before his death. Heroic effort was made to relieve him and to prolong his days but to no avail. In the quiet of the night, when the world was wrapped in slumber, he passed peacefully across the last river and entered upon the life beyond. He had made no profession of religion up to the time of his taking ill but during his last illness he professed faith in Jesus and said, "I am not afraid to die; if I live I will live for Jesus, if I die I die trusting in him. I am in his hands." He expressed a desire to live for his family but said that he could leave them in the Lord's care. His companion and loved ones have the joyous hope that some sweet day they shall see him where parting comes no more. He leaves his companion, children and many other dear ones who mourn for him in deep sorrow. Many friends join in prayer for them. May God bless and keep them unto eternal life. The funeral was conducted at the residence by Dr. J.W. Ellis and the writer and we laid his remains to rest in the cemetery here. R.E.L. Bearden.
