HENNON, George Mancil - George Mancil Hennon was born in Sullivan county, Mo. March 11th, 1867 and died July 26th, 1909 in San Antonio, Texas, being forty-two years of age. He was the third son of Joseph and Malinda S. Hennon, to whom were born six other children. The mother and the children, four boys and two girls survive him. The father preceded him to heaven by nineteen years. Leaving the farm in early manhood, he became a photographer. He made rapid progress in his chosen occupation. He began work in Memphis, Mo. where he worked for a few years, going finally to Olive Street, St. Louis where he became one of the leading photographers of the city. Failing health compelled him to close his gallery in 1905 when he began to battle heroically against the dread disease which finally caused his death. He went from place to place seeking health until the end came in San Antonio, Texas. His friends knew that he was rapidly declining in health but did not expect the end so soon. He died among strangers, none of the loved ones being present in the last hours, not knowing that the end was so near. His mother expected to make Bentonville her home in the near future and expected to have her son with her in the last days; but, so it is, "Man proposes and God disposes." While in Memphis, Mo. Bro. Hennon professed faith in Christ and joined the Presbyterian church. While he was not identified with the church at the time of his death, because of his going from place to place so often, he did not give up his faith in Christ. His friends feel confident that all is well with him and that some good day they shall meet him where parting comes no more. The mother, brothers and sisters who mourn have the sympathy and prayers of a host of friends. We all pray that God's grace may sustain them in this great sorrow. The body was shipped to Bentonville for burial. After appropriate funeral services in the M.E. church, South, we interred the body in the City Cemetery to await the glad morn of the resurrection.
