MAUCK, Emma DEUTSH - The community was saddened Christmas Day by the announcement that Mrs. Wm. D. Mauck had peacefully passed out of this life at the family home on North Main street after an illness of many months. She had suffered from a complication of diseases that had gradually sapped her vitality and her death, though not unexpected, came as a shock to her many friends and relatives. Emma Deutsh was born at Corydon, Indiana October 2, 1861. She was the eldest daughter of Jacob and Madeline Deutsh. Her parents had come to America from France soon after their marriage and settled in Indiana. Her childhood and young womanhood was spent at Corydon where she graduated from the high school. She married Wm. Dudley Mauck on June 30, 1885 and went with him to Garden City, Kansas to reside. Not liking conditions in the short grass country they came to Bentonville in January in 1886 and builded their home on North Main street where they have resided ever since. To them was born a son, Ralph, who died in his early manhood immediately following his graduation in law from the University of Virginia and before he had opportunity to begin the practice of law with his father. She is survived by her husband, Wm. D. Mauck, a prominent attorney of the Benton County bar, and a sister, Mrs. Anna Evans, of Phoenix, Arizona, who has been her constant companion during the past year. Mrs. Mauck had a wide circle of friends in the religious, social and civic organizations of the community. Though of a quiet, retiring disposition she was active in its work. She was an artist of splendid ability and devoted her talent to landscape work and China painting. She always had charge of the art exhibits and was one of the judges at the county fairs. For many years the care of the city cemetery has been her special interest and its beauty and neatness has been due to her constant attention. She was a home woman and liked nothing better than to have a group of friends there about her, painting, sewing, studying or just visiting. The funeral services were held from the First Presbyterian Church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The services were conducted by the pastor, Dr. A.W. Henderson. The sermon was delivered by Dr. Harry R. McKeen. Interment was made at the City Cemetery.
