MAUCK, Ralph W. - Died at the family residence in Bentonville, Arkansas August 27th, 1910, after two weeks of illness, Ralph W. Mauck, aged twenty-four years, seven months and twenty-five days. Ralph was the only son of W.D. and Emma Mauck. He was born at Kinsley, Kansas January 1, 1886. In 1887 the family moved to Bentonville when Ralph was but one year old. As he grew to manhood he manifested unusual ambition and industry. After the public school he took a literary course in the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, accomplishing a three year's course in two years. He then took a two year's course in the Legal Department of the University of Virginia, making remark high grades all the way through his course. He graduated from this institution in 1908 and for the past two years had been associated with his father, Judge W.D. Mauck, in the practice of law. Ralph was a very extraordinary young man and had he lived would have rendered valuable service to his country. He was already beginning to show strength of intellect and maturity of judgment unusual for his years. He spent his evenings at home and was free from bad habits. He was kind and courteous to all, but loved and honored his parents above others. The rare devotion which he always manifested toward his mother was the best element in his character. Ralph was a favorite in Bentonville. His death has caused universal sorrow in this community. The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Sunday, August 28 at 3 p.m. in the presence of a very large audience. Many followed to the cemetery. We do not understand this death but we bow to the will of God for He makes no mistakes. We desire to express our heart-felt sympathy to the father and mother and to all those who have been bereaved by the death of this noble hearted young man. W.S. Baker.
