NESBIT, Thomas B. - Mr. Nesbit was born in Owen county, Ind. on May 28, 1825, his parents having recently moved there from Ky. and died at his home in Bentonville, Ark. on Sunday Oct. 11, 1903 at 9:30 p.m., aged 78 years, 4 months and 13 days. He was named after his grandfather, Thomas B. Nesbit, who was an active and earnest worker in the time of Barton W. Stone and other prominent Disciples, in the cause of restoring the doctrine of the primitive church. Mr. Nesbit was raised on the farm; when quite young entered the State University at Bloomfield, Ind.; early in life commenced teaching school and followed this vocation for many years. In 1856 he and Miss Mary Patten of Monroe county, Ind. were united in marriage and they went to live in McDonough county, Ill. In 1870 he moved to Avingdon, Ill. in order that his children might have the advantages of better schools and the college at that place. In 1877 he moved to Kansas where he was engaged in farming and in 1887 he moved to Bentonville, Ark. where he has lived for the past sixteen years. He joined the Christian church when 14 years of age. Being an active worker in the church he was chosen and appointed elder in the Jefferson St. Christian church, Avingdon, Ill. He was also teacher in the Bible class of that church. Though an educated and studious man he was unfortunate in business transactions. He was the oldest son of a family of 7 children; one brother and two sisters are living but were unable to be present at the time of their brother's death. Mr. Nesbit leaves behind a beloved wife and three children to mourn his death. His wife and two daughters, Mrs. Rollins of this place and Mrs. Walton of Winfield, Kansas, but his son, Charles Nesbit of North Dixon, Ill., on account of the telegram being delayed in reaching him, did not arrive till shortly after his father's death. The funeral services were held at his home in the south part of town on Tuesday Oct. 13th, 1903 at 10 a.m. and immediately after the services his remains were laid to rest in the Knights of Pythias cemetery, Bentonville Ark. J.W. Famuliner.
