Robert Hudson Eidson

Robert Hudson Eidson, 86, a lifelong resident of Springdale, died May 12, 2004, at Washington Regional Medical Center. He was born May 25, 1917, in the Zion-Oakland community to Robert A. and Ruby Ann O'Neal Eidson.

Mr. Eidson attended Springdale High School where he lettered in football and basketball. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Corps. He married Luvene Walker on Oct. 2, 1936, in Springdale. He later owned and operated, along with his brother, the Springdale Lumber Co. and later owned Southside Building Supplies. He was a volunteer for the Springdale Fire Department, one of the founding directors of the Springdale Savings and Loan, and president of American Savings and Loan. Through his guidance with the Service Corp., land was developed in Springate for many of the first housing subdivisions. He was a member of Washington County Equalization Board, and was a farmer with poultry and cattle operations in Springdale and Decatur. He was also a member of American Field Trial Association where he was the proud owner of National Grand Champion Dog, Magdelene.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1991; one brother, Gus A. Eidson and son-in-law, Chester C. Brown.

Survivors include three daughters, Roberta Platt and husband Tom of Springdale, Mary Tune and husband Denny of Fayetteville and Margaret Brown of Bentonville; a son, Jimmy R. Eidson and wife Deana of Springdale; two sisters, Neva Buchanan and husband Thomas of Springdale, Dr. Helen Buchanan Meahl of State College, Pa.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by caregivers, Allen Wood, Aundra Spears, Sharon Green, Justin Myers, Dee Hoover, Cherie Creamer, Fran Mullins and Jo Ann Scheidle.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. today, May 14, 2004, at Sisco Funeral Chapel in Springdale with the Rev. Charlie Foster officiating.
