Thomas J. Bridenthal, 75, one of the best known farmers in this section, died Monday morning at 10:30 o'clock at his home 3 1/2 miles south of Springdale. He has been ill less than a week, death being due to uremic poisoning. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Zion church, southeast of Springdale, conducted by Rev. N.M. Ragland of Fayetteville and Rev. C.H. Sherman, pastor Central M.E. Church, South, Springdale, and were largely attended. Thomas John Bridenthal was born at Courtland, Alabama on September 30th, 1851, being the oldest son of David and Catherine Lucella Bridenthal. He was a grandson of John A. Bridenthal, a native of Germany who came to America when eight years of age. In early childhood he moved with his parents to Hillsboro, Texas, remaining there until the autumn of 1866 when they came to Washington county, settling on an estate of 700 acres south of Springdale. Part of this estate was the home of the subject of this sketch where he reared his family and where he died. He was educated under the direction of his father, educator and lawyer, and also studied law, following which he taught school for a number of terms. October 29th, 1879 he was united in marriage to Laura T. Rader, residing near Fayetteville, and to this union five children were born, four sons and a daughter, all of whom, together with their mother, survive. The children are Lee, Alver and Mrs. Beulah Gregg, wife of J.L. Gregg, all residing in this vicinity; Claud, pastor of First Christian Church at Excelsior Springs, Mo.; Irl, teacher in the schools at Gentry, Benton county. All were present when their father passed away. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. A.B. Henson of this place. In two years Mr. and Mrs. Bridenthal would have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. About the year 1875 Mr. Bridenthal made a profession of religion, uniting with the Christian Church at Fayetteville and although retaining his membership in that church in his later years he regularly attended and supported the church nearest him, at Zion. It is said of Mr. Bridenthal that he was a good neighbor, a strong and kind father and a faithful husband, being one of that generation of sturdy pioneers whose passing leaves a place that will be difficult to fill.
