PHINNEY, Allston Beach - A.B. Phinney, who for 38 years had been prominently identified with the jewelry business in Bentonville, died at his home at Fourth and West C Streets Saturday evening, December 4th, 1932 at 10:30 o'clock of heart trouble and double pneumonia. Mr. Phinney had been in failing health for several years and an attack of pneumonia 10 days ago aggravated the heart condition that resulted in his death. He is survived by two sons, Delbert E. Phinney, a jeweler, of Dennison, Texas and Fred M. Phinney, carrier on Rural Route No. 2 out of Bentonville, and by one daughter, Mrs. Leila Winnifred Wilkes who, with her husband, Louis Wilkes, has been living at the family home since the death of her mother about 15 months ago, Mr. Wilkes giving up his work as jeweler at Tulsa to help his father-in-law here. Allston Beach Phinney was born at Tecumseh, Mich. August 31, 1861. He died December 24, 1932, aged 71 years, three months and 23 days. He married Sarah A. Antes of Miltonville, Kansas August 6, 1884. In 1894 the family came to Bentonville for the benefit of Mrs. Phinney's health and moved to a farm west of Bentonville, Mr. Phinney engaging in the jewelry business here in town and has been identified with the business interests of the community ever since. Mr. Phinney was a loyal adherent to the Swedenborgian faith and lived the teachings of The New Church as he saw them. He was a man of strong convictions, uncompromising in his position on matters of right and wrong; honest and honorable in all his dealings; a man devoted to his home and family; temperate in speech and manner and a good neighbor and friend. During the closing days of his life in his conscious hours his great concern was whether or not any shortcoming of his might not be made right before he passed from this life and he checked his entire life carefully. He had a profound faith in another existence and firmly believed he would live again in another realm. Death to him was merely a door to another world and not a tomb. The funeral services was held from the Presbyterian Church Monday morning, December 26th with Dr. Harry R. McKeen officiating due to the illness of the pastor, Dr. A.W. Henderson. The deceased had been a member of the congregation of both these ministers. Interment was made in the Bentonville cemetery.-Contributed.

He was a capable artisan and engaged in the hardware and tinning business for a number of years before coming to Bentonville in 1904 in hope of benefitting the health of both he and his wife. For a time he lived on a farm west of town but later built the family home here and engaged in the jewelry business. This business he followed, except for short intermissions due to illness, until the time of his death. He was an adherent to the Swedenborgian faith and lived closely to the tenets of this faith. He was temperate in all things, honorable in all his business transactions, devoted to his home and family. He had an abiding faith in another existence beyond this and death was merely a door opening into it.
