James Louis Evans, Sr., was the ninth child of Leverett H. C. Evans and his second wife, Sarah C. Brown. He was born in Heard County, Georgia, 19 January 1861 and died 2 October 1919 at Des Arc, Prairie County, Arkansas. He is buried at Des Arc in Whippoorwill Cemetery. He donated this land for a church, school and cemetery. The church and school used the same building. The old building has long been moved and converted into a dwelling a few miles away
