Leonard Wayne Harness

SPRINGDALE — Leonard Wayne Harness, age 89, of Springdale died June 28, 2011, at Circle of Life Hospice House in Springdale.

He was born Feb. 14, 1922, in Shirley, Ark., the son of Joseph and Clara Guffey Harness. He was a member of Brush Creek Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday School teacher for many years. He also was a member of the Brush Creek Boys singing group for many years. He was retired from Tyson Foods.

Mr. Harness served in the United States Army during World War II and was awarded three Bronze Stars for service in Normandy, Central Europe and Rhineland. He was also awarded a Good Conduct Medal.

Mr. Harness was preceded by his wife, Laverne Harness, in 2008. He was also preceded by two brothers; and three sisters.

He is survived by one son, Stanley Harness and his wife Miriam of Rogers; two daughters, Sandra Green and her husband, Marvin, of Springdale, and Joan Harness Bradshaw and her husband, Charlie, of Springdale; two brothers, Herman Harness of Veneta, Ore., and Ellis Harness of Lafontaine, Ind.; one sister, Mary Johnson of Benton, Ark.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday, July 1, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Chapel, with burial following in Elm Springs Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 30, 2011, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home.

Eileen Laverne Harness

SPRINGDALE — Eileen Laverne Harness, 83, of Springdale died Dec. 23, 2008, in Springdale. She was born Sept. 9, 1925, in Arlberg to Joseph and Ida Satterfield Bane.

She was a homemaker and a member of Brush Creek Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, collecting recipes, cooking and sewing.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Leonard Harness of the home; her son, Stanley Harness and Miriam of Rogers; two daughters, Sandra Green and Marvin of Springdale and Joan Harness of Fayetteville; four brothers, Cecil Bane and Darrell Bane, both of Shirley, John Bane of Fairfield Bay and Dean Bane of Damascus; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Memorial Funeral Home in Springdale, online at www.memfuneral.com. The Rev. Terry Eaton will officiate. Burial will follow in Elm Springs Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Sherman Murray, Rex Murray, Nathan Mayes Brandon Harness, Duane Baskin and John Taylor.
