James Fountain Dies in Car Wreck in Kansas Saturday

James Reaford Fountain aged 19 was killed instantly at an early hour Saturday, September 27th, in an automobile accident near Ellinwood, Kansas. In the car with young Fountain were Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Diehl of Ellinwood. Mr. Diehl suffered a broken neck and is in a hospital, while his wife escaped with less serious injuries. A flat tire is said to have caused the accident, the car leaving the highway and turning over three or four times. The accident occurred about (unclear) a.m. The body of the victim was returned here arriving on Tuesday's south-bound train; graveside services and burial were at Shaver Campground Cemetery Wednesday, with burial at that place under direction of the Hall Funeral Service of Calico Rock. Previously services had been conducted at Ellinwood Sunday. James Reaford was born at Wideman June 5, 1933. He obtained his first five years of schooling at Cross Roads. The family moved to Ellinwood, Kansas about eight years ago, where James attended Ellinwood Elementary Public School. He married at Melbourne, Arkansas October 1, 1951. His wife being the former Miss Betty Brittain of Ellinwood. For several months past he had been employed as a tractor driver for the Easter Pipe Line Company of Ellinwood. Deceased is survived by his wife; parents Mr. and Mrs. G. J. Fountain of Ellinwood; two brothers, Bill Fountain of Fort Scott, Kansas and Robert Fountain of Ellinwood; one sister, Mrs. Edith Roberts of Rockford, Ill., and a host of relatives.
