Gene U. Porter, 77, of Norfork passed away Friday Oct., 26, 2007, at his residence. A funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Norfork Church of Christ with Bro. Adam Evans officiating. Visitation will be noon-9 p.m. Monday at Roller Funeral Home with family receiving friends 5-7 p.m.
He was born May 11, 1930, in Caraway , the son of James Albert Porter and Lelah Lowrey Porter. He married Iva Jean Lawrence March 10, 1951, in Mountain View. Mr. Porter worked as a drywall contractor but spent most of his life working on his farm. He established and developed Porterfield Estates. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was also a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He served the county as justice of the peace in District 11. He served on Baxter County Fair Board, Baxter County Equalization Board and Farm Bureau Board for many years. He was a longstanding member of Norfork Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years,, Iva Jean; four children, Bill Porter of West Plains, Mo and Gary Porter and his wife, Cindy, Debbie Rogocki and her husband, Tony, and Shane Porter and his wife, Debbie, all of Norfork; eight grandchildren, David Porter, Cristy Mckee, Levi Rogocki, Ethan Rogocki, Bethany Porter, Shayna Porter, Payton Porter, and Haydon Porter; and two great-grandchildren, Issac McKee and Justin Buel. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, JoAnn Metzger; his brother, Frank Porter; and his daughter-in-law, Carolyn Porter.
Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Ozarks or Paragould Children Home.
