Sidney H. Pearce, 75, 305 N.E. C. St, Bentonville, a former superintendent of the Arizona State Prison, died Aug. 11 in Rogers Memorial Hospital. Born Nov. 23, 1898, in Cornwall, England, he was the son of George Thomas and Helen Houking Pearce, having moved to the U.S. with his parents in 1902. After moving to Des Moines, Iowa, as a young man, he joined the police force and retired in 1937. He eventually became a state ranger in Arizona, followed by the position of prison superintendent, retiring from the latter job in 1956, the year he moved to Centerton, Ark. He moved to Bentonville in 1965, and was a member of the Methodist Church and charter member of the Mesa, Ariz., Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Martha Jane Lawrence Pearce of the home; one son, Stanley Harold Pearce, New Hampton, Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. June Cardwell, Tampa, Fla., and Mrs. Melba O'Brien, Colorado Springs, Colo.; one step-son, Frank Grannes, Miami, Ariz.; three brothers, Bert Pearce, Des Moines, Stanley Pearce, Reed Springs, Mo., and Russell Pearce, Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Mrs. Maybelle Miller, Gooding, Idaho; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Burns Funeral Chapel, Bentonville, with Rev. Vernon W. Becker officiating. Burial will be in Bentonville Cemetery under direction of Burns.
