LEWIS ROACH FUNERAL HELD AT HOME HERE FRIDAY

Funeral services for Lewis Roach, aged 83 years, eight months and 14 days, a resident of Bentonville since 1912, who died at the Roach home on Second Street, N.W., at 2:30 o’clock p.m., on Christmas Day, 1935, were held at the family residence at 2:30 o’clock Friday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Harry L. Barr, pastor of the Bentonville Christian Church. Music was by Mr. and Mrs. M.W. Galloway, Mrs. M.J. Kilbourne, Mrs. Arch Fields, E.E. Bryan, and Gilbert Lawson, and the pallbearers were R.L. Thompson, Burks Dudley, John Ames, Lon Holcomb, Towne Bolin, and E.E. Bryan. Interment was at the Bentonville cemetery with funeral arrangements in charge of the Callsion-McKinney Funeral Service of Bentonville.

Mr. Roach was born at Kokomo, Indiana, on April 11th, 1852. With others of the family he moved to Tennessee and lived in that state until nearly grown, when his father died and he went with his older brother to Wisconsin, and from there to Minnesota where a sister lived. Coming back to Wisconsin, he and his other brother went to Cherokee County, Iowa, going to that state before there was a railroad farther west than Fort Dodge. He bought virgin land there and broke and farmed it and lived there until 1888, when he sold out and moved to Vermillion, South Dakota, but in 1895, sold there and moved to Kearney, Mo., where he bought a farm and lived for 13 years before going to El Campo, Texas, in 1910. From Texas he came to Arkansas in 1912, buying a farm north of town, which later he sold in 1919 to S.E Hall, and he and family moved to their Bentonville town residence.

Mr. Roach was married in 1880 to Miss Lilly M. March, who survives him. Six children were born to them, one of whom, Harry, died at the age of six years while the family lived in Missouri.

Besides his wife and their daughter, Miss Vina Roach, who, with her mother, has nursed and cared from her father through his years of failing health, Mr. Roach is survived by four children. They are Chas. H. Roach of El Campo, Texas; Mrs. C. J. Dykes of Leavenworth, Kansas; Mrs. Lester Blalock of Nebraska; Walter of Brinkley, Ark.
