Benton County Democrat
May 23, 1890
David Chandler was born in Burke, now McDowell county, N.C. October 3rd, 1804. He immigrated to Benton county in 1846 and was elected in August of that year as county surveyor. In 1850 he was elected to the state legislature. He was again elected to that honorable position in 1872 and was in the famous Brooks-Baxter call session in 1874, serving in both sessions with the Hon. Jas. H. Berry, now a Senator in Congress from this state. He has been at the time of his death a notary public for twelve years. He died Monday and was buried on Tuesday of this week. Uncle Dave had been long and favorably known in this county. He was a good man and his death will be greatly lamented throughout the county.
