Mr. Franklin R. McKissick, 58, of Forrest City, died Sunday, July 29, 2007 at Crossridge Community Hospital in Wynne as a result of injuries he suffered in an automobile accident. Mr. McKissick was born Oct. 2, 1948, in Goodwin, the son of Peter McKissick Sr. and Mamie Lee Smith-McKissick. He was the 11th of 14 children born to this union. Franklin was a member of New Mount Zion Freewill Baptist Church in Goodwin. He was a member of the deacon board and assistant treasurer. He was also a member of the Transportation Ministry and the Small Group Care Ministry. Franklin received his education at the Wheatley Central Elementary School in Wheatley, Marion Anderson Junior High School in Brinkley and Palestine High School in Palestine. He later attended AM&N College (University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff), where he received a bachelors of science in Business Administration in 1972. He also certificates from the Tennessee School of Religion in Memphis. Mr. McKissick worked for Halstead/Rubatex in Wynne and Colt for over 30 years. In August of 2006, he began his career as a corrections officer at the Arkansas Department of Corrections-McPherson Unit in Newport. Franklin was a loving, kind, gentle and devoted husband, father, son and brother. He loved woodworking, working on cars, reading and his family and many friends. His father, two brothers: Deacon Johnny McKissick Sr. and Leonard McKissick (infant), two sisters, Lyla McKissick-Clements and Dartheilla McKissick-Wilson and his father-in-law, George W. Sisk Sr. all preceded him in death. Mr. McKissick is survived by his wife, Glinda F. McKissick of Forrest City; a son, Franklin McKissick Jr., of Little Rock; three daughters, Keisha Sisk of Memphis, Krystal (Rodney) Williford of Burleson, Texas and Karman McNutt of Forrest City; his mother, Mamie Lee Smith-McKissick of Forrest City; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Sisk of Forrest City; four brothers, Peter (Naomi) McKissick and Samuel (Carolyn) McKissick, both of Wheatley; Elijah McKissick, of Forrest City and Clifford McKissick of Jacksonville. He is also survived by five sisters, Darthy Lee McKissick, of Little Rock; Famie McKissick, of Brinkley; Emma (Melvin) Goodrum, of Pine Bluff; Barbara Haynes and Shirley McKissick, both of Forrest City; five brothers-in-law, Iowa Wilson of Wheatley, Arnell (Joann) Simmons and Warren (Brenda) Sisk, both of Cincinnati, Ohio and George Sisk Jr. and Henry Sisk and George Sisk Jr., both of Forrest City; Teresa McKissick, of Forrest City; Beatrice (Joe) Dorris, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mildred Thomas and Georgia Ball, both of Dallas, Texas and Virginia Sisk, of Marietta, Ga.; seven grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 3, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m. at New Mount Zion Freewill Baptist Church on Highway 70 East in Goodwin. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the Wheatley Civic Center, West 8th Street in Wheatley with interment to follow at Goodwin Memorial Cemetery in Goodwin. Dr. Otis Clayton Sr. will be officiating. Professional services provided by Branscumb, Johnson and Gilchrest Funeral Home of Brinkley branscumbfuneralhome@yahoo.com. Pallbearers will be the Honor Guard of the Arkansas Department of Corrections.
