Dixie Howerton, 86, passed away Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011 in her home with her family by her side. She entered this life in Dry Fork Community, on Nov. 13, 1925, daughter of Olney and Edna (Gage) Howard.
Dixie attended school at Gobbler and on June 8, 1946 she was united in marriage to Clifford Howerton. They owned and operated a farm in the Rudd Community and the Rudd Store for many years. She was a member of Osage Baptist Church where she spent hours serving in numerous capacities. She was also caretaker for Gobbler Cemetery for a number of years. She had a servant's heart and consciously sought to work hard at whatever needed to be done.
She was a loving, devoted mother, grandmother and sister. Her faith and family always came first. Dixie is survived by her daughters, Carol Carey and husband Delbert, Cathy and husband John all of Berryville. Three grandsons: Scott Worley and wife Kam of Berryville, Jim Worley of Belle Chase, LA and Shawn Bunch of Fayetteville, AR; great-grandson Tayler Worley and his mother Melanie Simmons of Knob Knoster, MO and one sister Alene Woods of Rudd.
She is preceded in death by her husband Clifford Howerton; her parents; and one infant brother J.N. Howard.
