Ethan Carroll Hardin

FAYETTEVILLE — Sgt. Ethan Carroll Hardin, 25, of Fayetteville was killed in action in Logar Province, Charkh District, Afghanistan, Jan. 7, 2011.

Born Oct. 8, 1985, in Springdale, he was the son of Thomas and Cecelia Adair Hardin.

He was a member of Mission Boulevard Baptist Church in Fayetteville and played junior varsity basketball and varsity basketball and track. He was in the National Honor Society and Who's Who among High School Students, and he was a delegate for Boys State. He served in the United States Army, assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Polk, La.

He joined the U.S. Army in January, 2006, and after completing training was stationed at Fort Irwin, Calif., and in Germany before arriving at Fort Polk in March 2010. He previously deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from November 2008 through October 2009.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star
Medal, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge.

He is survived by his parents, Thomas and Cecelia Hardin, of Fayetteville; one brother, Paul David Hardin of Springdale; two sisters, Adriel Worth Wiggins and husband, Keith Charles, of Springdale, and Zina Joyce Hardin of Fayetteville; paternal grandmother, Barbara Worth Richey of Fayetteville; maternal grandparents, John Carroll and Beverly Adair of Bella Vista; and two nieces, Laura Grace Wiggins and Karen Joyce Wiggins, both of Springdale.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at Mission Boulevard Baptist Church in Fayetteville, with Pastor Brian Disney officiating.

Burial will follow at the Round Mountain Cemetery with full military honors.

A gathering of family and friends will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, at Beard's Funeral Chapel.
