GOODWIN, Katherine CHANEY - Funeral services for Mrs. Katherine Goodwin, wife of D.P. Goodwin, who passed away at the Goodwin home at Thirteenth and West F Streets at 7 o'clock Sunday evening, April 13th, 1930, aged 73 years, 10 months and 20 days, were held Tuesday afternoon at the family residence, conducted by the Rev. J.H. Henson, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Interment was in the family lot at the Bentonville cemetery. Although seriously ill for a period of two years or more, Mrs. Goodwin bore her sufferings with the Christian fortitude and unselfish spirit of self-sacrifice typical of her long and useful life. A daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Chaney, Mrs. Goodwin was born at Tremont, Illinois May 23rd, 1856. Growing to young womanhood in that state she was married to Mr. Goodwin at Peoria, Illinois on October 22nd, 1877. Of their five children only two survive their mother, Mrs. Marvin Foster of Bentonville and Albert Goodwin of Spencer, South Dakota. From Illinois Mr. and Mrs. Goodwin had moved to Peabody, Kansas and in 1902 they and their two surviving children came to Arkansas, locating here at Bentonville. Within a few months after their arrival here Mr. Goodwin built the house which has since been the Goodwin home. Besides her husband and two children Mrs. Goodwin is survived by one sister, Mrs. Sadie Evans, of Denver, Colorado who has been here for several months. She is also survived by four granddaughters, June, Beryl, Juanita and Ida Katherine Goodwin of Spencer, S.D. Bert Goodwin, who with his wife and four daughters had been here for a visit with his mother and other relatives a short time ago, returned for his mother's funeral, making the close to 800-mile motor trip from Spencer to Bentonville in 25 hours. He was accompanied by a close friend, J. Wylie Caudle, also of Spencer. Other out-of-town relatives and friends coming here for the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. Richard Chaney and their daughter, Miss Hazel Chaney, of Big Cabin, Okla. Mr. Chaney is a nephew of Mrs. Goodwin. For a great many years Mrs. Goodwin had been a faithful and consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. She was a real wife and mother, a real friend, and a real neighbor. Her greatest pleasures were in her home and family, in her church work, and in service to neighbors and other friends, and to the stranger in sore need of understanding kindnesses. The great number attending her funeral and the many floral tributes witnessed the esteem in which she and her family are held by a wide circle of friends. A Neighbor.
