Benton County Democrat

MASON, June - A death which shocked our entire city occurred last Sunday morning about 8:30 o'clock when it was reported that June Mason had died suddenly at his home in the north part of town. Investigation proved that the report was only too true and the facts as gathered are as follows: Mr. Mason and wife were preparing to go to Mrs. Mason's brother's home to spend the day and he left the house to harness the horse and hitch it to the buggy. Being gone a longer time than his wife thought necessary she went in search of him and found him lying prone upon the earth, face downward, dead. From the evidence of one who saw him fall it could not have been more than one minute from the time he fell until Mrs. Mason found him so death must have been instantaneous and, it is thought, resulted from heart failure. Mr. Mason has been a resident among us for about six years and in business most of that time. He was widely known and respected by all as an honest, trustworthy and upright young man. About three years ago he professed faith in the religion of the Lord Jesus Christ and united with the Baptist church of this place, living an exemplary Christian life until his death. He was a young man, not yet having reached his 35th birthday, and was apparently a strong, robust man, actively engaged in the business of a merchant. But death, inexorable and immutable, called and he, like all flesh, was compelled to answer the summons. Funeral services were conducted at the Baptist church on Tuesday morning by Rev. J.H. Coin after which the body was laid away in the cemetery at this place. A large number of friends were present to pay their last respects to the deceased. The entire city deeply sympathize with the bereaved relatives in which The Democrat joins.
