Union Solider of the Civil War. Enlisted 24 June 1861, when The Maine 5th Regiment was formed. Josiah Bassick was with the 5th ME Co C until it was mustered out 27 July 1864, in Maine. The 5th ME was in some of the bloodest battles of the Civil War, the 5th Maine fought in 43 battles, places like Gettyburg, Bull Run, over 1000 men were there to sign up in 1861, by the time the 5th Maine was mustered out, in 1864, 212 original men was left. Josiah Bassick was there, in all 43 battles, one of only a few men left.
