Lillian Jeanette George Redwine

FAYETTEVILLE — Lillian Jeanette George Redwine, 84, of Fayetteville, died April 29, 2009, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale. She was born March 9, 1925, at home in the Brush Creek community of Elm Springs to Charles Lee and Willie Jeanette Lowe George.

The third of three children, her family moved to Springdale in 1934. A Christian, in her youth she was a member of First Baptist Church in Springdale where she played the piano and the organ. Over the years she was a member of Wilshire Baptist Church in Dallas and First Baptist Church in Fayetteville. In later life she was a congregant of Fellowship Bible Church of Northwest Arkansas and participated in community groups whose members fondly called her "Aunt Lil."

She attended Springdale schools, graduating in 1943 from Springdale High School where she was Homecoming Queen, and the University of Arkansas. Lillian married Joe Redwine on April 7, 1946, at the First Baptist Church in Springdale. The couple moved to Dallas in 1953.

Living in Dallas 30 years, Lillian was an active member of the Cornelian Club and the Parent-Teacher Association, holding various offices in each. She was also a Girl Scout Brownie troop leader. Returning to Northwest Arkansas in 1983 with her husband after his retirement, she was a member of Springdale Schools Alumni Association, Northwest Medical Center Auxiliary and Shiloh Museum.

Traveling with her husband to Europe, where he led Texas State Teacher's Asscciation tour groups, and to Russia, where she added to her collection of lacquer boxes, were favored activities. Their contributions to education and music were honored with the creation in 2006 of The Lillian and Joe Redwine Music Endowment at The New School in Fayetteville.

Lillian enjoyed playing the piano and the organ for relatives and acquaintances until her passing. Late in life she recorded requested special selections for her family. She made friends easily, remembering others through thoughtful acts of kindness.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years; her parents; one brother, Luther Lee George and wife Cathryn; and one sister-in-law. Mary Frances Rice George.

She is survived by one daughter, Janette Ann Redwine Treat and husband Carlos of Springdale; one granddaughter, Stacy Jeanette Treat Avery and husband Dennis of Kansas, Okla.; one grandson, Brian Carlos Treat and wife Kara of Springdale; three great-granddaughters, Ashley Treat and Aubrey Treat of Springdale and Blakely Avery of Kansas, Okla.; one great-grandson, Wyatt Avery of Kansas, Okla.; one brother, Ellis Eugene "Gene" George and wife Virginia of Springdale; one sister-in-law, Helen George of Springdale; one niece, Cathy Lu George Evans and husband David of Fayetteville; three nephews, Gary Charles George and wife Robin; John Lee George and wife Mary; and Richard Eugene George and wife Shelley, all of Springdale; three caregivers, Brenda Sue Dowell, Freda Mae McLeroy and Mona Sue Wallis, all of Springdale.
