Obituary - Mr. LeRoy Mathews, 76, of Portland died Sunday, November 6, 2005, at the Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. A native of Hector, a resident of Portland for over 50 years and a former resident of Parkdale, he was a retired farmer and a member of the Aulds Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nola Bernice Owens Mathews of Portland; a son; Henry Mathews and wife Liz of Crossett; two daughters, Sandra Kelley and husband Ronnie and Crystal Mathews, all of Portland; two brothers, Coleman Mathews of Hector and Lewis Mathews of Crossett; two sisters, Mary Bell Ricks of Hamburg and Frances Hennington of Portland; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Larkin and Minnie Coffman Mathews; four brothers, Archie, John, Galyn and Harvey Mathews, and three sisters, Gladys Fuller, Exie McCuin and Berlin Winters.
Funeral services were planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 8, in the Aulds Baptist Church with Revs. Ray Williams and E. W. Ricks officiating. Burial was to follow services at the Portland Cemetery. Pallbearers were to be Jim Rodgers, Ronald, Lewis and Derral Ricks, Ronnie Pamplin and Leigh Wallin. Honorary pallbearers were to be Bill Sellers and Andy Williams. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home, Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the Aulds Baptist Church, c/o Delane Pamplin, 536 Ashley 58 Road, Portland, AR 71663.
