Mr. Earl William Jones, 76, of Portland died Monday, March 8, 1999, at his home. A native of Heber Springs, he had lived in Portland for 42 years and was a retired farmer and pipeline welder. A member of the Aulds Baptist Church, he was preceded in death by a son, Tom William Jones, in 1998; his parents, Tom and Clarissa Avants Jones; four brothers, Ervin, Carlton, Earmon and Virgal Jones; and two sisters, Anna Bates and Elsie Uerlings. Survivors include his wife, Estelle Morris Jones of Portland; a son, Steve Jones of St. Louis, MO; a daughter, Paula Jones Verdun of Fountain Hill; two sisters, Clara Jones Freeman of Coal Hill and Geneva Jones McMillian of North Little Rock; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, in the Aulds Baptist Church with Revs. Ray Williams and E. W. Ricks officiating. Pallbearers were Ronnie Kelley, Mike Aulds, Dean Harmon, Junior Irons, Kenny Allred and George Rutledge. Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth Rice, Buddy and W. H. Rutledge, R. H. Tuggle, Donnie Bozeman and Leroy Matthews. Burial followed services at the Portland Cemetery, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg.
