VANMETER, Mack Harvey - A sad funeral held Sunday was that of Mack Harvey Vanmeter, the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. William Vanmeter of Eagle Corner district, southwest of Centerton. Mack was at work plowing in the field at the beginning of the rain Saturday when a bolt of lightning struck him, killing him instantly, as well as his horse. His family did not find him until about three hours afterwards. When the rain slacked and he had not shown up at the farm home, those in search of him found him dead with his horse. His body was not disfigured in any way by the lightning. Mr. Vanmeter was born July 11, 1907 at Black Rock, Arkansas and died Saturday, April 13th at the age of 21 years. Funeral services were held Sunday, the Rev. C. Cockrum of Bentonville officiating. Burial was made in the Coffelt cemetery. He leaves to mourn his loss his grieved parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Vanmeter, four sisters: Mrs. Clara Longmate, Rogers; Mrs. Rachel Smith, Dodge City, Kansas; Mrs. Maud Girtman, Rosston, Okla. and Belle Main, Dodge City, Kansas and a brother, Vester Vanmeter. Mack was converted and became a member of the Christian Church four years ago. He was of a quiet, home-loving and retiring nature. His family have the heartfelt sympathy of the neighborhood in their great loss.
