Bruce Smithson Dies After Long Illness
Bruce Smithson, well known citizen of this vicinity, died Saturday, September 5, at his home near Gorby, after an illness of several months. He was 70 years of age.
Deceased was born in Carroll County, Ark., and came to Izard County early in life with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Smithson. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Cooper in 1895, who departed this life in 1925. Mr. Smithson was a member of the Methodist Church.
Surviving, are four sons, John Smithson of Calico Rock, Hubert and Kirby Smithson of Gorby, and Thurman Smithson of Creswell; two Daughters, Miss Mahala Smithson of Gorby and Mrs. Ruth Mason of Creswell; one brother, Will Smithson of Ft. Smith, Ark., and one sister Mrs. Ruth Stone of California; also 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at Gorby Sunday afternoon by Rev. J. C. Wilcox of this place. Interment was in Palestine Cemetery.
