Jesse Franklin Whitney was born in Randolph Co., N.C. May 28, 1861 and departed this life June 8, 1929 at Garfield. In the spring of 1869 he, with his father, moved to Douglas Co., Kansas. Then in 1875 he moved to Cowley Co., Kansas. In the year 1876 he moved to Benton Co., Ark. where he lived the remainder of his life. He was married to Miss Addie Wilson in 1887 and to this union were born eight children, seven of whom are still living. Edgar Earl, the oldest, preceded him March 21, 1911 to the Great Beyond. Scott resides at Clantonville, near Seligman, Mo.; Roy at Tulsa, Okla.; Ross at Blair, Nebr.; Mrs. Janette Williamson at Tulsa; Mrs. Mamie Davis at Garfield; Albert and Maggie are both living at home with their mother. There are 12 grandchildren. All the children were at his bedside at the hour of his death. He professed a hope in Christ April 5, 1914 and united with the Church of Christ at Garfield and lived a faithful Christian life. His moral character was above reproach; a man who honestly toiled with brain and muscle for what he possesses of this world's goods. He was strictly honest in his dealings, always giving good advice to his children. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Louis Moon by special request of the deceased. Remains were laid to rest in the Ruddick cemetery on Sunday afternoon.
