SPRINGDALE — Roy A. Pitts, 72, of Springdale, Ark., passed away Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at the Windcrest Nursing and Rehab.

Roy was born on March 26, 1939, in Clarksville, Ark., a son of Orvil E. Pitts and Vanna Smiley Pitts. He married LaVon Crump on Match 8, 1997, in Tontitown.

Roy worked as a forklift driver for Cargill Industries for 25 years before his retirement. He loved fishing, gardening and wildlife.

Survivors include his wife, LaVon of the home; two daughters, Sandra and husband, Mike Ross, of Elm Springs, and Alicia Pitts of Springdale; several stepchildren; two brothers, Barney Pitts and Billy Pitts; a grandson, Collin Pitts of the home; along with several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Jane Brasher Pitts; one daughter, Margaret Ann; one son, Roy Douglas Pitts; and two brothers, J.T. Pitts and Ronnie Pitts.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, at 6 p.m. at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Chapel. Mark Michaelson will officiate the service under the direction of Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Springdale. Online guestbook at www.backstrom-pyeatte.com.

Betty Jane Pitts, 52, of Springdale died Saturday, Oct. 8, 1994, at Springdale Memorial Hospital. Born June 29, 1942, at Essex, Mo., the daughter of Clyde and Marie Shafer Brasher, she was the wife of Roy Pitts.

Survivors are a son, Roy D. Pitts of Springdale; two daughters, Sandra Ross of Pilot Rock, Ore., and Alici Kay Pitts of Springdale; her mother of Springdale; a brother, Junior Brasher of Springdale; six sisters, Carolyn Treat and Faye Sharp, both of Springdale, Ida May Goff of Booneville, Alice Leach of Lincoln, Rose Waltrip of Lowell and Shirley Myers of Huntsville; and four grandchildren.

Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Forest Park Cemetery with the Rev. Burton A. Miley officiating, under the direction of Sisco Chapel in Springdale.
