WILKS, Henry - (from Garfield) Mr. Henry Wilks of this city and a prominent man, passed away after an illness of nearly four years of cancer. His remains were buried at the Reddick cemetery, south of town, under the auspices of the Odd Fellows of Garfield, assisted by neighboring lodges.

Mr. Henry Wilks was born in Terre Haute, Indiana Aug. 6th, 1832. In 1866 he became a resident of the State of Illinois and after a long residence there he moved to the State of Arkansas in 1885 and located at Garfield, Arkansas where he remained a good and faithful citizen until his death, May 21st, 1892, aged 59 years, 9 months and 15 days. In the year 1854 he was married to Miss Mary A. Poe in Greene county, Indiana with whom he lived in close companionship that made beautiful all their married lives. He was a devoted member of the Christian church and a member of the I.O.O.F. He had been an ardent sufferer for several years with that most excruciating of all diseases, a cancer, but he endured his afflictions with great patience and unfaltering faith in Him who had redeemed and saved him.
